Letter Of Introduction
My name is Colby Boman, and I was raised for the most part in Bloomfield Hills Michigan. I was born in Chicago to my mom and dad who had just recently married. My parents got divorced when I was only 3 years old, so I was raised entirely by my mom. I have moved 12 times, and transfered to many schools all before I reached 4th grade. I think my family has made me who I am today because it really influenced how I was raised. Due to my mothers hard work and success, I am motivated to excel in all that I do. I work hard with all that I do, I am a great leader and very outgoing, and I plan to attend a big university with an undergrad major in psychology.
My portfolio consists of three things. My final paper from MHS last year, my community service paper, and a portfolio including my graphic design projects from sophomore year. I think this portfolio reflects my work well. It consists of 2 papers, and papers are my strength. I included my art piece because I normally don't have any artistic abilities to show off but I was really proud of this work. I am very proud of my final paper from MHS last year. It took me a long time, it was a well written essay, and it was very reflective on myself and what I gained that semester at Model. Doing things I knew I was good at, such as writing papers, is what made me excel and improve my writing in these pieces. I have always been a good writer so I am confident when doing it.
I believe I am a great leader, and this is my "special interest". I am not exceptionally talented at sports, or art, or performing, or even academics. I am a member of the National Honor Society because of my leadership qualities. I want a chance to meet all kinds of new people and join new clubs that I don't even know exist right now when I go to college. Being a leader and setting a good example might be what gets my into my number one school choice, Wisconsin. This is because Mr. Hollerith really respects me so he is helping me out by reaching out to a representative at this university.
Being able to take as many psychology classes as I did, I am positive I want to major in Psychology no matter what university I end up at. I plan to attend law school afterwards, but am not entirely sure. This goal is shown in other pieces included in my portfolio because I think part of psychology is understanding yourself, and in both of my papers I was very reflective on my work and my success.
Throughout my years at Lahser High School I really realized a lot about myself. I found that I can lead by example, and not follow peoples footsteps and be led down a path that is not of my choice. I think being raised by a single mother who is incredibly successful makes me have an even stronger drive to do well. My outlook on life is very positive, and I have high hopes and dreams for the years to come.
